Roses and Tulips Still Life

Floral Still LifeFall is here, yet I still want to paint yellow roses. I know oranges, rusts, and browns are coming, but I want to savor lighter, brighter colors as long as possible.

This combination of soft yellow roses against the vivid tulips is striking. The Honeycrisp apple will be gone soon from the local orchards, so I wanted to capture it while it’s still in season.

The tiny blue dish is handmade from a gallery in Madeleine Island, Wisconsin. I traveled there with my friend Marybeth to attend a Gwen Marston quilting workshop at the Madeleine Island School of the Arts, and after class each day, we would tour the island and its galleries.  This is one of three exquisite, tiny dishes I bought.
